Who will see your ad

This is one of the oldest and largest homeschooling sites on the Web. There are hundreds of links to my homeschooling pages, and I've have been listed in several books and many newsletters. If you're trying to reach a national (or international) audience of homeschoolers - from unschoolers to school-at-homers, from agnostics to fundamentalists - you belong on my Homeschool Vendor page. If you want to offer classes or other services to homeschoolers in your area, you belong in my (Real Soon Now!) classified ad section.

Over the year from early August 2002 to early Aug 2003, my main page averaged over six hundred hits a day, with seasonal variation. The main Vendors page was the eighth most popular page on this site, running around 40 visitors a day. Roughly half those visitors then visited the actual Ads page, making it the 25th most popular page on this site. That's 20 families a day who want to buy homeschooling products.

To place an ad

All ads must be paid in advance, via a check made out to Midnight Beach and mailed to

Midnight Beach
139 Heath Street
Santa Cruz, California 95060
It will generally be easier for you and for me if you send your ad copy and images via email - but if you prefer, you may send them with the payment, on a Windows-readable CD-ROM (or even floppy disc).

All ads must have

A two or three word category.
All ads are grouped alphabetically by category. Feel free to make up a new category if none of the existing ones best describe your product or service. (I reserve the right to place your ad in an existing category, if I think that would simplify the page's organization.)

An up-to-ten word name.
Within each category, ads are grouped by size; within a category and size group, ads are presented alphabetically by name. While the names are only shown for Text ads, all ads must have a name for sorting purposes. (If you don't supply a name - or the name is obviously intended to put your ad before others (eg, your display ad is for "Jane's Used Books", but your ad name is "AACME") - I'll make something up that starts with ZZ.)

A type and duration.
That is, what size ad, and how long should it run.

Display and icon ads must be accompanied by an image, or by a URL where I can get the image. All images will be copied to my server for the life of the ad.

Ad copy is optional for all ads, but I can't imagine that icon or text ads will be very effective without any text. The 250/100/100 word limits include visible text - that is, HTML tags are not included in the word count. Sending your ad copy via email is the best way to eliminate transcription errors.

A response URL is optional for all ads. For display and icon ads, the URL will be linked to the image; for text ads, the URL will be linked to the bold name.
